What is the model of your iPhone or iPad? What is the version of your operating system? Answers to these questions will mean you can follow along on a demo or need to update your device. Apple provides a site to help you identify your iPhone model and your iPad model (wifi only and cellular+wifi). It helps to know your cellular provider, listed at the top left corner as AT&T or Verizon or Sprint for iPhones and cellular iPads.
Apple provides a help page on updating your operating system. Do this AT HOME when you are charging your device and connected to your home wifi to avoid cellular data charges. On this page is a link to show details if you have to update using iTunes, often for iPhone 3 and iPad 1.
An iOS update will require available space. If you are prompted that more space is needed, you must remove content (TV shows, videos, books, magazines, apps or songs). Don't delete Photos you have taken until you move the images to your computer.
