We are volunteers, not experts. You need to do your own research and evaluate what is right for your iPhone or iPad. Not all web pages speak to every reader. Explore the links below and read several sites to get comfortable with this process.

Ranny tried to use AirDrop to share a web page with our large group. AirDrop might work best at home with smaller sized groups - all devices must on the same wifi network.
Need a "newer" device to update to 8.
iPhone 4s or newer; and iPad 2, 3, 4 and minis.
Make room -- Free up storage space. iOS 7 required 1GB of free space. So that is a minimum target for your device. More is better! Because you will want to take more pictures and add new documents.
Can delete unused apps. Push on one until they "dance" and then push the "x" at the top corner of the icon for the app you want to delete. You can delete any app you have downloaded, the original Apple apps will not show an "x" and cannot be deleted.
If available, use your home computer to back-up your photos, apps and app data.
Ascertain how much available storage space for your device in Settings > General > About > look at Capacity and Available.
Ascertain how much space all apps have in Settings > General > Usage.
Wait for Usage data for the list of apps to show up. If you want to delete an app from this screen, tap on the name and it allows you to delete.
Photos and Videos will take up a lot of storage space. Practice viewing Photos on your device (aka "local storage") and on iCloud (aka "cloud storage"). Use home computer to back-up your photos, apps and app data. to iCloud. After confirming your images are on both the device and iCloud, then delete photos.
Can delete either single photos from albums. Or use "select" to delete multiple photos. Videos, music, and books take a lot of storage space. Purchased items can be restored later after deletion.
2 ways to back up: via iCloud or with iTunes on computer.
iCloud method: Settings, iCloud, Storage & Backup and tap Back up now, or do automatic "iCloud Backup"
Then check for updates: go to General, Software Update, and message appears to
Use App Store to check Apps with updates.
Then back up your device.
If an important app exists, check with developer website to see if it is ready for iOS 8.
Remember
- Update apps before you begin the iOS 8 update.
- iOS 8 and app updates take time. Use your home wifi to update.
- Depending on how many people are trying to access updates, the process can be slow, 30 minutes at a minimum.
- Plug in your device to power source.
- Do not close the cover or put it to sleep.
- During iOS updates you cannot use your device
