Google Maps & More

Friday, October 3rd: Jennifer Kerr used the Google Maps app (iTunes link) extensively when planning and undertaking a trip to Michigan and Ohio to find 1950s family homes. Learn about some quite amazing Google features, not even counting Streetview, that helped her. Read her handout to help you on your own journey.  (In early versions of the iPhone, the Google Maps app was included automatically. Now the Apple Maps app is on your device and you have to download the free Google Maps app.)

Karen Roseland will describe Disaster Alert by Pacific Disaster Center and some good websites for finding public domain maps useful for presentations. For example, at the University of Texas at Austin is the Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection. Most of this collection is in "the public domain" and it is a great resource. If you love maps, consider making a donation to expand the online map collection.
