- Flipboard news aggregator, (free) set personal news feeds from multiple international news sources (select from menu by topics), save to read later or share (the company bought related App Zite recently). Some sources (i.e., NY Times) limit content unless you pay them.
- Merlin by The Cornell Lab, (free), easily identify that bird you just spotted.
- Podcasts by Apple, (free). Recommended podcast: Science Friday, Grammar Girl, Story Corps, Car Talk, Freakonomics Radio, The Moth (great storytelling). You can download podcasts to listen offline, then delete when you're done.
Some new Siri tricks:
- Ask her for Flights Overhead. You'll get a listing of all planes, commercial and private, in the sky.
- When you're asking Siri for something, hold down the button to keep her from interrupting you.
- Ask her What can I ask you? for a list of interesting stuff.
